Block Search Websites...

Since Bing, Google, Yahoo and many other search websites allow easy access to pornographic content, it is necessary to use FocusMe to block all search websites with the exception of swisscows.com, which has been deliberately designed to exclude all pornographic content from the search results that it provides.  You can confidently use swisscows.com as a search website to safely search the internet for the information that you need knowing that it excludes pornographic content.

The method of blocking search websites using FocusMe has three components.  The first component is blocking a list of search websites.  The second component is blocking search websites whose URLs contain any occurrence of any keywords in a list of keywords, such as “google”.  The third component is allowing a list of website exceptions, such as google.com/recaptcha, so that you can still function properly on the internet.

Click on “Plans” at the top of the left-hand menu of FocusMe.

Click on “Add Plan” near the top-right of FocusMe.

Enter “Search Websites” for the Plan Name, then click on the “Next” button at the bottom-right of FocusMe.

With “Blocklist” already selected on the left-hand side, click on the “Add Site” button near the top-right of FocusMe.  Click on “Custom” near the top-left of FocusMe and then click on “Enter websites here (one per line)”.

Note that “Select Type” is already set to “URL” at the top-right of FocusMe, which is the setting that is needed.

Using Ctrl + c and Ctrl + v, copy and paste the entire following list of websites into FocusMe.  When the dialog box titled “Multiple lines detected” appears, click on the “Ok” button.

altavista.com
aol.com
ask.com
baidu.com
bing.com
dogpile.com
duckduckgo.com
ecosia.org

excite.com
gibiru.com
gigablast.com
infospace.com
lycos.com
mywebsearch.com
onesearch.com
startpage.com
webcrawler.com
wow.com
yippy.com

Click on the “Done” button at the bottom-right of the screen.

Note that you can add other search websites to be blocked to this plan at a later time after you have already set this plan up and set it running, as described below in the second last paragraph of this page.

In order to block any websites whose URLs contain any occurrence of any keywords in a list, go through the same process for adding websites to be blocked, except that instead of adding websites to the “Blocklist”, you’ll be adding keywords to the blocked list.

Using Ctrl + c and Ctrl + v, copy and paste the entire following list of keywords into FocusMe.  When the dialog box titled “Multiple lines detected” appears, click on the “Ok” button.

google
yahoo
yandex
swisscows.com/image?
swisscows.com/video?

The keywords “google”, “yahoo” and “yandex” will block any search websites whose URLs contain these keywords.  Since there are so many Google search websites, using the “google” keyword is the most effective way to block them.

Since swisscows image search and video search do return suggestive content that is on the fringe of pornographic content, it is sensible to block them using the keywords “swisscows.com/image?” and “swisscows.com/video?”.

Click on the “Done” button at the bottom-right of the screen.

Note that you can add other search keywords to be blocked to this plan at a later time after you have already set this plan up and set it running, as described below in the second last paragraph of this page.

In order to allow certain websites, such as google.com/recaptcha, so that you can still function properly on the internet, go through the same process for adding websites to be blocked, except that instead of adding websites to the “Blocklist”, you’ll be adding websites to the “Allowlist”.

Click on “Allowlist” on the left-hand side of the “Websites” screen, then click on the “Add Site” button near the top-right of FocusMe.

Click on the “Done” button at the bottom-right of the screen.

Click on the “Next” button at the bottom-right of the screen titled “Websites”.

Click on the “Next” button at the bottom-right of the screen titled “Applications”.

Click on “Just Block” in the screen titled “Rule Type”, then click on the “Next” button at the bottom-right of the screen.

Click on the “Next” button again at the bottom-right of the screen titled “Rule Type (Just Block)”.

Click on “Daily/Weekly” in the screen titled “Schedule Mode”, then click on the “Next” button at the bottom-right of the screen.

Click on the “Select All” button at the right of the screen titled “Schedule Mode (Daily/Weekly)” in order to ensure that the website and keyword blocking takes place on every day of the week, then click on the “Set schedule” button that appears in the middle of the screen.

With the primary button on your mouse pressed down, drag your mouse cursor to ensure that all of the hours from 12:00am at the start of the day to 12:00am at the end of the day are selected in the screen titled “Schedule Mode (Daily/Weekly) – Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday”, then click on the “Next” button at the bottom-right of the screen.

Click on the “Random Chars (8)” button near the top-right of the screen titled “Protection”.

Click on “Random Characters”, set the number of random characters to two (2), then click on the “Accept” button.  Once you’re sure that the plan is functioning correctly, you can edit the plan and increase the number of random characters for the password to something really large like 1500.

Click on the “Done” button at the bottom-right of the screen.

Back on the main screen of FocusMe, click on the “Start” button to the right of the plan named “Search Websites” that you just created.  This plan is now in effect and is blocking all of the websites that you added to its Blocklist and any websites whose URLs contain any of the keywords that you added to its blocklists.

Click on the three vertical dots to the right of this plan named “Search Websites”.  You can add a website or keyword to the Blocklist at any time while this plan is in effect by clicking on “Block New Site” and entering the website or keyword in the dialog box that appears titled “Quick Add to Blocklist”.  Leave “URL” selected and leave “RegEx” unticked.

In order to edit the plan, you need to first stop the plan by clicking on the “Stop” button and entering the random characters.  You can then click on the cog icon to right of the plan in order to edit the plan.
